Il Piemonte
si può dire diventi internazionale dal Trecento, allorché troviamo la
terra «pede montium» citata da Petrarca e Boccaccio, il «Pedemond» del
poeta inglese Geoffrey Chaucer, il «Piémont» delle «chansons de geste»
franco-italiane. Terra di confine e al tempo stesso cerniera dell'Europa,
troppo a lungo fotografata solo come industria o agricoltura, da qualche
tempo ha iniziato ad aprirsi verso orizzonti ben più ampi e affascinanti.
Non è più solamente la fabbrica o la risaia o la vigna. Eventi straordinari
di questo fine Millennio, ben costruiti dalla «Regione Piemonte», trovano
popolazioni ( di montagna e di pianura) più aperte ai dialogo e capaci
di far molto meglio apprezzare le mille bontà e bellezze della regione,
dagli ambienti naturali, ai beni storico-architettonici, a tradizioni
e culture che vengono da molto lontano. Il Piemonte ha imparato a lanciare
messaggi internazionali, parlando al cuore delle persone, usando «argomenti»
di una ricchezza umana rimasta lungo tempo nascosta. Le immagini di quest'opera
rappresentano un richiamo ed al tempo stesso un notes di viaggio virtuale
in una regione d'Italia che si offre all'Europa ed al Mondo con la propria
robusta simpatia. |
Piedmont
first attained something of an international flavour during the course
of the fourteenth century when it acquired a mention under the guise of
«Pedemond» in the works of Chaucer, «pede montium» fromk the pens of Petrarch
and Boccaccio, and «Piémont» in the French and Italian chansons de geste.
Both a march and one of Europe's hinges, its portrait has too long been
lensed as cars or carts. For some time, however, it has been looking out
on much wider and more fascinating horizons in which factories, paddies
and vineyards are not the only dramatis personae. Extraordinary events,
fully constructed by the Piedmont Region, are occurring as our second
millienium draws to its close and finding both highlanders and plainsmen
more ready to talk things over, better able to secure due appreciation
of the region's thousand and one beauties and other fine things conferred
by nature herself allied with history, architecture and traditions, plus
cultures imported from distant lands. Piedmont has, in a word, learnt
to launch international messages, to speak to the hearts of others, to
use persuasions engendered by a human richness that has long gone unperceived.
The pictures that follow are both a reminder and a virtual traveller's
notebook illustrating an Italian region whose sturdy congeniality is ready
to hand for the rest of Europe and the world.
