 Dai 6 ai 14 anni il giovane pilota "down under" ha conquistato qualcosa come 41 titoli australiani di Dirt e Long Track e 70 titoli statali, gareggiando in 5 categorie diverse, in competizioni di 7 round ciascuna. Questo significa che, ogni fine settimana di gara, Casey guidava cinque moto di cilindrate diverse per un totale di 35 gare a week end. In un'occasione ne ha vinte 32 su 35.Appena compiuti i 14 anni la famiglia ha deciso di trasferirsi in Inghilterra, dove è iniziata la sua carriera in pista. In Australia non sarebbe stato legalmente possibile fino ai 16 anni di età. È stata una decisione difficile, ma ne è valsa la pena. In Inghilterra la giovane promessa ha attratto subito l'attenzione dell'ambiente e ha trovato dopo una sola gara supporto economico per affrontare il campionato. Al termine della prima stagione, nel 2000, ha vinto il titolo inglese del Campionato Aprilia 125cc. Nello stesso anno aveva corso anche due gare del Campionato Spagnolo 125cc dove è stato notato da Alberto Puig, che lo ha ingaggiato nel team Telefonica Movistar 125cc per disputare il Campionato Spagnolo di categoria dell'anno seguente. Nel 2001, Casey ha corso sia nella serie inglese sia in quella spagnola e, nonostante un infortunio, è arrivato secondo in entrambi i campionati. Sempre nel 2001, ha corso come wild card nel mondiale 125cc in Inghilterra e in Australia, arrivando rispettivamente 18° e 12° e ottenendo così un'offerta per correre l'intera stagione mondiale 2002 nel team LCR. Appena sedicenne, Casey ha corso la sua stagione d'esordio nel mondiale nella classe 250cc dando prova di talento e velocità. Il suo miglior risultato è stato un quinto posto a Brno, ma spesso è arrivato tra i migliori dieci. Nel 2003, sempre nel team diretto da Lucio Cecchinello, ma questa volta nella classe 125cc, è arrivato anche il primo successo iridato, nella gara di Valencia di fine anno [..]  Just after his 14th birthday Casey decided to make the move overseas and packed up and headed to England to start his rood rocing career. Cosey could not legally road race in Australia until he was 16. So the decision wos mode to move to England. A big risk to take, but it paid off. Casey was lucky enough and talented enough to attract immediate sponsorship ofter just one race in England.He went on to take out the English 125cc Aprilia Chompionship in 2000, in his first yeor of rood racing. In that yeor he also raced two rounds of the Spanish 125cc Chompionship. It was there he was noticed by GP great Alberto Puig. Alberto was impressed by Cosey's determination and skill and invited him to race for the Telefonica Movistar Team in the 125cc Spanish Championships the next year. In 2001 Cosey raced in both the English ond Spanish championships. Despite missing some English races due to clashes, he stili monaged to come second in both chompionships. In that some year he was olso granted wildcard entries into the MotoGP 125cc world series, in both Englond and Australia. He placed 18th and 12th respectively and as a result wos offered a ride in the Grand Prix world series the next yeor for the Safilo Oxydo LCR team. Straight onto o 250cc machine in his rookie year, and at only 16 yeors of age, Casey demonstrated his ability and speed with results. His best result for the yeor was a 5th at Brno as well as severa! 6th piace finishes. In 2003 he went on to ride for Lucio and So filo Oxydo LCR in the 125cc GP series and took four podium finishes and his first race win, in Valencia, at the end of the seoson. His first win in a GP race wos a huge turning point for Casey and his coreer. In 2004, at 18 years of age, Casey moved to KTM for a seoson where he helped to develop the team's 125cc bike into a winning machine [..] |
