 "With the back to the wall" these individual design concepts could easily be overlooked these days. As a vertical section of the building, a wall structures the interior, organizes it into private and public areas, forms lines of sight and points of reference. Walls change the impression of the room and its volume; they elegantly guide visitors through the building or lead them into a dead end. In contrast to the façade that protects the building from influences of the weather, the inside wall enjoys the luxury of being configured freely. However, this freedom simultaneously demands a responsible approach to the design of wall surfaces: The quality of the room's effects stands or falls with the walls since they have a fundamental influence on the atmosphere of a space. Furthermore, the walls determine the how people feel when they live within them.The design with extravagant wallpaper can transform a home into a shimmering palace with little effort and give your own four walls an individual character. With self-adhesive motifs like the wall stickers from "a better tomorrow" butterflies can settle in the big city and set temporary accents. The wall can even turn into a statement through quotes from the "Silbensalon". Clubs, hotels, and business also rely on the recognition factor of unusually designed surfaces. The elements of light and ornament are used by the designers of Autoban at "Club 29". Tomás Alfa has also applied this approach in designing the "La Reina Bruja" bar. Fortunately, the easy-care wall with plants by "indoorlandscaping" doesn't require a green thumb. On the other hand, the mirror mosaic designed for the "Irma Mahnel Store" in Munich is completely maintenance-free. The wall serves not only as an expression of your own individuality or as a trademark, but also as a bearer of concrete information such as illustrated by the orientation systems of L2M3 and the Uebele agency. The times in which, according to Adolf Loos, ornaments in architecture were considered a "crime" and an "indication of a primitive culture" appear to be definitively over. Even the purist woodchip wallpaper of the 1990s has outlived its usefulness - passionate decorating is permissible once again! Today walls are designed with felt, plastic, parquet, and translucent concrete - but what will the wall of the future look like? Christopher Pearson's animated surfaces show how the digital age is also making its mark on the walls. |
INTRODUZIONE "Con le spalle al muro": così si potrebbero riassumere concetti costruttivi individuali dei nostri giorni. Nella sua essenza di elemento costruttivo, un muro dà struttura allo spazio interiore, lo articola in domini privati e pubblici, genera angoli visuali e punti di riferimento. Le pareti modificano il volume dello spazio e l'impressione che esso ci trasmette; accompagnano elegantemente il visitatore attraverso l'edificio o lo conducono in un vicolo cieco. Diversamente dalla facciata, che protegge l'edificio dagli agenti atmosferici, le pareti divisorie interne godono del lusso di essere liberamente organizzabili. Allo stesso tempo, tuttavia, questa libertà richiede un approccio responsabile alla disposizione delle pareti: è qui che si decide l'efficacia dell'effetto spaziale, giacché la parete esercita un influsso fondamentale sull'atmosfera dello spazio vitale e determina la "sensazione abitativa". L'allestimento con parati stravaganti può trasformare un'abitazione in un cangiante palazzo con una spesa ridotta, conferendo alle stesse quattro pareti un carattere del tutto individuale. Con motivi autoadesivi come le applicazioni a parete di "a better tomorrow" le farfalle arrivano fino alla metropoli, lasciandoci per un attimo il proprio tocco. E i muri assumono la dimensione di vere e proprie dichiarazioni attraverso le citazioni del "Silbensalon". Anche club, hotel e negozi si affidano al valore riconoscitivo di superfici allestite in modo inusuale. Elementi di luce e di ornamento sono stati sfruttati dai designer di Autoban nel "Club 29", e similmente Tomás Alfa ha allestito il bar "La Reina Bruja". Fortunatamente le pareti ricche di piante del "indoorlandscaping" non richiedono un pollice verde né cure eccessive, mentre il mosaico di specchi progettato per "l'Irma Mahnel Store" di Monaco di Baviera è del tutto esente da manutenzione. Le pareti non fungono solamente da espressione della propria individualità o come marchio di fabbrica, ma possono essere anche portatrici di informazioni concrete, come chiaramente illustrato da sistemi guida di L2МЗ e Büro Uebele. Il tempo in cui Adolf Loos invocava l'ornamento in architettura come un "crimine" e un "indice di una cultura primitiva" è definitivamente alle spalle, e anche la purista carta da parati dipinta degli anni '90 è uscita di scena - decorare con passione è di nuovo ammesso! Oggi le pareti vengono allestite con feltro, stoffe, parquet e diafano cemento, ma che aspetto avrà la parete del futuro? Le superfici animate di Christopher Pearson dimostrano come l'era digitale sia entrata anche nella decorazione dei muri. |
